The brain compares an object to its surroundings. If an object is surrounded by smaller elements, it will appear larger. Conversely, a large object surrounded by larger elements can feel miniature.
The brain holds a mental template for everyday objects (like a smartphone, a person, or a car). If a graphic shows a car smaller than a phone, the brain experiences a "size discrepancy" and feels the image is wrong.
