A wasp used an oak leaf to build a nursery, .then used ants to move it

This interaction has been documented in cynipid oak gall wasps including Kokkocynips rileyi and Kokkocynips decidua, on red oak leaves such as Quercus rubra in eastern North America.

The gall grows a fatty cap called a kapéllo. To ants such as Aphaenogaster picea, that cap resembles the food reward found on ant-dispersed seeds.
